For those who are new or just want a recap. These power rankings are done by myself using a fancy MS Excel formula and some boffins, and they are just a bit of enjoyment and just an extra part of "realism" to our league. For this season, I've opted to retire the old
(and complicated) formula and spend some time developing a more suitable and easier formula. It's about the 70th formula I worked on or even more, and I think it stands up quite well with the rankings.
What the new formula does, it firstly calculates the points differential your team has (Points For - Points Against) and then divides it by the number of weeks played, then with each win is being worth 4 points and a tie worth 2 points, it takes that figure and divides it by your teams' strength of schedule. It's a bit simple, but I feel it works and rewards victories as well as both sides of the ball, so keeping your opponents to low scores but also scoring as many points as possible.
So, without further delay, here is the first power rankings for the new season. The change in position is based on where your team was in Week 3 based on the spreadsheet. For those not aware, these are only released from Week 4 until the end of the regular season, as I use the preseason to tweak and check everything is working fine and the first three weeks of the regular season to allow the rankings to gather some data and have a good set of games inserted.
