Howdy All. Something that has always seemed to be a source of irritation to many in our little world here on MFN has been those pesky power rankings. Many an owner has tried to work out how they are done and to no avail. That is why back in the first MFN Electrosports universe... I, along with a few other owners (Beans was one of them), decided to create our own power rankings!!!

That's right, we created our own. Over a couple of seasons, we developed a formula that worked best for our league, taking into account points scored and conceded, as well as win totals and strength of schedule and came up with a rankings system that I like to think really does work and is easy to understand and follow along with. The formula is quite complicated, but if you check the cell formula in the Power Score cell in the spreadsheet, you can see how it all works out.

So, what happens is that after each week of games during the regular season (I don't do preseason or the postseason), and after I did the predictions (since that was the easiest thing to do when I was running it) was to get the power rankings also updated. I would get my little helper boffins to run the numbers and produce some fancy graphic to show the top 10 ranked teams, or something like that and link a copy of the whole set of rankings in the spreadsheet to you all, with some made-up fancy awards each week.

That link will take you to the first four weeks of rankings. If I have set it correctly, you will only be able to view the spreadsheet, but if you are able to edit it, please let me know (and please, don't edit it at all). I will update that spreadsheet after each game. Since I get the boffins to do the calculations locally first, the link above may change, but I do link the spreadsheet in each post, so just check the most recent post in this thread. Normally, I don't release the first full set of rankings until Week 4 because that then gives us a good "month" of games to view and see how things are shaping up, but I think it is a good time now to share it at Week 3 so you've got the weekend to ask questions (via Discord, not in here please) and be ready to see the official first rankings of the 2023 season on Monday, that and it gives the boffins some time to get that graphic looking better.
