Here Come the EarthquakeWe're back in action with the Electrosports Football League at the Chronicle! Here you can expect the best coverage of your favorite Southland team, the LA Earthquake, as they campaign for the Hyperelectrobowl Trophy year after year. As the foundation draft is ongoing and the season still a bit of a ways off, today we're going to talk about the team itself. Today we focus on the most important question:
Who are the Los Angeles Earthquake? The LA Earthquake (known lovingly as La 'Quake) are a professional gridiron football team from Los Angeles, California. Founded in 2022 as a part of the brand new Electrosports Football League, the 'Quake are owned by a conglomerate of investment bankers, record label execs, and at least one hip-hop artist from the '90s. The team's ownership group has stated that their plan is to help support team management in any way they can as they try and build a perennial contender. GM Jack Cook said, during the team reveal, that he was confident in the ownership and management of the team and was looking forward to many years in sunny SoCal.
Meet the CoachesHead CoachMark Redmon is the 49-year-old at the helm of the Earthquake. Redmon has an impressive resume as a head coach at the collegiate level, having sent the San Diego State University football team to a bowl game eight of the past nine seasons. Redmon favors a run-first approach, something he used to great success with the Aztecs, while focusing his defense on pass protection. Though he has let his DCs at SD State do the defensive play calling, Redmon has run a 3-4 defense in the past when he was defensive coordinator at Arizona prior to getting the head coach gig in San Diego.
Offensive CoordinatorGuy Ramsey, former head of food services for a couple of celebrity restaurant chains, is diving straight into the deep end of American Football as Offensive Coordinator for the LA Earthquake. Although his hands on experience is limited, Ramsey has won four professional Madden tournaments in a row, something he says has prepared him for this role in the new EFL. Ramsey looks to mirror his head coach in offensive game planning, focusing on a run-first approach.
Defensive CoordinatorFrank Simmons helms the Earthquake defense after many solid years with Hawaii. Consistently with a top-25 defense, Simmons favors a hands-on, physical man-to-man approach that utilizes big, physical corners and linebackers. Simmons favors using hybrid linebackers both at the DE and SS positions, so look for a faster, lither defense than others. Simmons has consistently brought out a 4-3 front, though he did show some wrinkles with his formations in the Aloha state. His players say he's tough, but he has always held the attention and respect of his guys.
That's it for this edition of the Chronicle. Come back next time when we talk about the real meat of the team, the players.
