Depth chart improvement idea

It's hard to keep order of players' SECONDARY - and third- fourth :) - useable positions, extra much when playing more than one league.

Extra much wanted :) by the sim play players to much, who are ment only to be used in THAT position IF better players get injuried, but the coach can want to play them in OTHER position so it can't be solved by making them inactive....
Because without this suggestion it's much work if take them away from backup positions where they are bad but not terrible :) when they become needed the be active in secondary backup positions by the better players there get injuried. Much work to look through many players to check again who can be backups there during the injuries...

So it would be convinient if it would become possible to KEEP a player in Depth chart in positions where they are not even second backup, but make them passive in THAT position, but stiill active in OTHER position.
Preferingly geting other color when they are "half passive".

That simply isn't how football works. You can only dress 46 guys on gameday, so on a full 53-man roster, 7 guys are inactive (i.e. ineligible to play).

You can put the same player at multiple positions in varying orders. Not sure why you need them inactive at one position but active at another.

I’m not sure if I’m having a similar idea to Lunkin...

Perhaps he’s trying to say, if your LT gets injured, by default his backup begins playing. But if you want your LG to move to LT and then your LG backup becomes your actively playing LG, how do you control that? Even if you put your LG as your backup at LT, will it move the LG to LT instead of keeping him at his starting position at LG? How do you control the shifting around of offensive linemen to what you want?

If this can’t be controlled, is it just a case of hoping the head coach will do what you want?

Maybe it would work by putting your starting LG at the #2 position at LT. Then if your LT gets hurt and has to leave the game your LT#2 is your LG#1. Moving the LG#2 to the starting position at guard.

Boom/Bust

Allow that as a search criteria. I was looking at various free-agents, and noticed someone had a cut a player whose improvement so far, in his rookie season, was +5/+14 (something like that). I signed him straight away. Then I thought "why can't I search by this?"

You missunderstood my idea.

Because to assist to REMEMBER which players can functions as BACKUPS at some more positions than their main position, when players get injuried so they can't participate in NEXT match.
=These backups AREN'T expected to be needed as backups during the RUNNING match, and because they aren't so good, I don't want to play them in THAT position THAT game.
But by injuries (or it can be trades and such too) a Depth Chart can need some change to NEXT match. Then it would be convinient to not need to check through several players, who can be of some use in that position, when it's "crisis" by many injuries at SAME position.
If make it possible to have them at the Depth Chart and active at SOME ppsitions they are put at, it would become less work to keep order of where players can play as secomdary positions.
It become extra hard to remember such things when having more than one team and players in different teams have similar names :)

For instance in some teams I have punt/kick return "specialists" which aren't so good in any other position, but they can be better than no one :) if geting many injuries in a position they can play at.
At same time I DON'T want to have them "active" in BOTH positions, when there are no injuries there, because the others are so much better... :)
Soon after I started playing I noticed the sim engine play players I didn't expected to be used EXCEPT at injuries, but the 3-4-5 backup were played WITHOUT there were injuries. So I "had to" take them away at THAT position, but I can STILL want to use them in Special teams...

IRL a coach have such in his head, but he spend much more time at his ONE team, than I spend at my FIVE teams in this GAME :) That's why I would find it convinient with such assistance.

That's an OTHER idea than mine.
Yours is DURING a match,
mine is to be used BETWEEN matches when a situation have changed much since the preparing for the match before,

Yes. that would be nice.

Your text inspred me :) to get the idea this can be used to solve BOTH these:
I were going to suggest the following also :) although to find who to pick to positions as Kick returner and Kick holder which is very inconvinient as it is now to find among the player who ARE in the team allready.

SAME search function as in Free agents, but for players in the team allready , can solve BOTH these things in ONE solution.

You can select your own team in the player search in order to find the best players at certain positions. I do this all the time to fill out my depth chart.

Then that's your actual problem. I list 5 or more players at every position in my depth chart, because you are right, it is hard to remember who is good at backup when planning for next game when you have many teams. This has never caused a problem for me. I rarely see the computer play players that aren't either the primary or backup for that position. In the early days I downloaded the game log. I filtered and checked who was in game each play to understand how/when the computer made subs.
