College football - what now? !

So I get roughly what happens in cfb but it is at this stage that I get a bit lost. Got some games on tv tonight but don't really get what they're playing for.
I know the regular season has ended and I know there's a semi final and final around the turn of the year. But what are these next few weeks for?
I've tried Googling it but it's so unclear - can someone put it into easy terms for me? !

College is soooo much better than pro.

Last night the PAC 12 conference game was held and USC beat Stanford.

Today we have the conference championship games featuring teams from the Big Ten conference (Wisconsin vs Ohio State), Big 12 conference (TCU vs Oklahoma), SEC conference (Georgia vs Auburn) and the ACC conference(Miami vs Clemson).

The winners of those games will be ranked on Tuesday by the playoff committee which will have the top 4 playoff with #1 vs #4 and #2 vs #3 in early Jan. The winner of those playoff games meet in the National Championship.

So how come only those four conferences are allowed to playoff for a final four spot? And what happens to usc now they've won?
Why don't alabama appear? I thought they were supposed to be the top team?

The ranks are not just for those conferences...it's for all the teams...but "normally" the power 5 conferences feature in the final 4.

Both Alabama and Ohio State are waiting if any of the others slip up.

PAC 12 has had a poor season and USC will not be featured in the final 4...but they will get a NY6 game (a big bowl game)

So Georgia are 6th and hoping to win to sneak ahead of auburn and get a top 4 slot right?
So why aren't alabama allowed another game this weekend to sneak into the top 4?
I think they're the only team in top 8 rankings that aren't playing right?

If UGA beat Auburn it opens up both UGA & Bama to get into the top 4....I can't see 3 SEC teams in the top 4 but 2 is possible. With tonights games, there a a plethora of possible outcomes depending on the results and how good/bad a team won/lost.

One thing is certain, the playoff committee will have their work cut out for them if there is an upset...especially multiple upsets.

Bama has finished it's regular season and failed to qualify for the SEC Championship. Many believe that if one of the top 4 slip up that they get in.....if O$U beat Wisconsin...do you take a B1G conference winner at 10-2 vs an Alabama at 11-1 ??????

Right ok. So tonight is the final night of games to decide the final 4 on new years eve right?
Surely if bama are above Georgia in rankings why didn't they reach this conference final that I'm watching atm?
