Definitely not a waste of time for me. I download games to pull out the statistics from them to keep my data analysis and SQL skills sharp.

I'm just getting into the SQL state of mind. I've made a few half-hearted attempts at using this game to learn it, but due to a recent promotion, it's become a part of my irl job too. That, and XML writing. So, time to start deep-diving.

I missed database class, (was probably in student bar), so I just mess around with spreadsheets - however the classic problem still exists - the tussle between Holmes and Coase....

Is SQL the most frequently used language? I'm seeing a lot that use java, and others in their syntax. I downloaded Memento on my phone just to play with it and get-learnted. I like it because it links to Google Sheets, but it seems to have it's own language.

SQL is the language for relational databases. Other languages like Java handle the interface between the user and the logic, often acting as a wrapper for SQL code when they need it.

Some do it and track it in their head for the same reasons. DB'ing should just be a second check of the conclusions - or perhaps a refinement of decisions made.
For me, I will always be a pencil guy :)
