player weights

New player, can someone better explain the player weights system to me, i get the basic concept, but after playing around with it for a bit, it seems the coaches rec's are always better and I can't seem to find any niches that would raise the players overall rating. Can anyone give me an example of how they went against the coaches rec's and improved their players overall? ty

I believe it is used for seeing ratings how you want to see them.

Example: Maybe a QB's accuracy is more important in your offensive scheme than his arm strength is. You would weight pass accuracy higher than arm strength in the weights. Once you go through all the weights at that position, all those adjustments will show up in all QB's that you see in the league. Only you see the weighted ratings and everybody see's the default ratings.

If you pull up a players card you'll see 2 sets of ratings. The top one is based on your weights and the bottom one is the default ratings.

Another example:
MLB: maybe you want a fast defense that puts pressure on the QB. You might value speed, accel and pass rush over strength and run defense. It's up to you what you want to see out of your LB.

Maybe somebody can correct me if Im wrong here. Cause Im wrong a lot. But that's the way I have been using it.

As far as players getting better. That will depend on each player. Volatility give you an idea of how he will develop to a degree. The higher the vol the bigger chance he will boom or bust as we say. The low the number the better chance he has to develop close to his bars. Another kicker to that is playing time and age and i believe injuries but not sure about that. A player will need playing time to develop and also gain that valuable knowledge of the plays in their playbook. And your playbook comes from your head coach.

Here's a link to our league Help page. I'm working on gathering all of setherick's guides along with other ones I find. So that they are all together and in one place. I still have several more to find but it's a good start for you. Good reading and important info in them.

Welcome to MFN. If you like football strategy, it's a blast. Enjoy.

The confusing part is where you say, it's what you "see" in the player. if i move the bar around my QB's overall goes down, are you saying that's just cosmetic? Or are you saying it permanently changes his overall accuracy in games if I raise that bar.. but lowers his overall score? I'm not to sure I would be worried about what I "see" if it's not the truth.. you follow?

when you slide the bar on say, Speed, for a WR. if you put it at 100 then go to the players card. when you look at his Details you see 2 ratings your rating will take into account the speed at 100 as the Most important quality you want for that position. the other rating is just a standard rating. by the game AI.
By adjusting the sliders for your preferences, you see how that player stacks up by your priorities, and how he well he fits your ideas on the best skills for that position.

OK, i guess what I'm saying is, If my coach default is set at 50 speed for a WR, the WR rating is 65/65.. If I move the speed up to 100, his rating goes down to 63/63... did he actually get faster and the overall go down? Did he get faster at all? Did he not get faster and I just made "speed" appear higher in the players card?? I guess I don't understand why you would ever move the bars outside of looking for players to draft or sign. As I understand it right now, I sounds like it's just something cosmetic on the players card, that could help you in finding players to add to your team, but not that it actually changes the player.. right?

No it doesn't actually change anything on the player. It is just as you said, for finding players to sign or draft.

Correct it doesn't change how good the player is it just makes it easier to find the talent you are looking for.

Ok just to be sure.. it's 100% useless for players already on your team, other than it adds that attribute to the players card?

It can help you set your depth chart and you can better see if you might want to cut or trade that player but it doesn't help your players at all.

It will help you determine which players have the attributes and skills that you value the most and/or will fit the system/strategy you will employ in your game plan.
